The fish harbor at the south east end of the old harbor at the river Warnow in Rostock-Marienehe was chosen in 2003 as sea base because the shore was easy to reach and the requirements for flying operations of seaplanes could be met. Several criteria had to be observed to establish a permanent sea base e.g. wind directions, noise, obstructions and the ship routes. But that was not all. Frequencies had to be obtained as well as markings for the runway (17/35) as well some infrastructure like a pontoon where the plane could land. Without the help of the navy, the Air Service Berlin, Clipper Aviation GmbH, Fliegerverein Purkshof, Bagger-, Bugsier- und Bergungsreederei, Rofia GmbH, Frischbeton Marienehe, Neptunindustrie Rostock, the Fracht- und Fischereihafen it would have been impossible. The first aircraft to operate regularly from the new sea base was the SE-GUF Cessna 206 of the Air Service Berlin. The company offers roundtrips throughout the year. Help to run the 4th Seaplane Meet was received again from the German Red Cross, the DLRG and the Reservistenkameradschaft of the Bundeswehr. The JG73"S" in Laage send again fire fighters with equipment. The 5th Seaplane Meet is scheduled for August 11th to 14th 2005.
