The abbreviation ELITE stands for Electronic Warfare Live Training Exercise. It's a complex high quality education regarding all aspects of electronic warfare and a highlight for all flying units, Flugabwehrraketen units and air defense units. The aim is to prepare the pilots and wizzos to handle electronic counter measures and to learn appropriate tactics to destroy, defend or to avoid them. Main target is the Truppenuebungsplatz Heuberg.
The history of the ELITE goes back to 1991 when the JaboG32 in Lechfeld together with the Flugabwehrraketengruppe 43 organized an exercise, which should serve as preparation for RED FLAG in the USA. The exercise was repeated in 1992 and up to 1995 more and more German units took part. In 1995 it became an international exercise.
From May 27th till June 9th 2005 the JaboG32 in Lechfeld organized the ELITE and took part together with units from 18 other nations. Main airbase was Lechfeld; home of the Jabog32 with its Tornado ECR specialized for electronic warfare. Other participating aircraft were Greek F-16C/D, Italian Tornados IDS & ECR, Swedish SK-37E & S-100B and Turkish F-16C/D.
