The Tiger Meet 2004 was taking place from August 31st till September 06th in Schleswig/Jagel.
It all started in1959 when the NTA (NATO Tiger Association) was founded as wished by then French secretary of defense Messner. The association was found to improve the relationships of squadrons with a tiger in its squadron badge and to exchange knowledge and experiences. In July 1961 the 74th sqn of the RAF, the EC 1/12 of the FAF followed the invitation of the 79th sqn of the USAFE to come to Woodbridge/England. Since then the Tiger Meet is taking place annually (except 1989, 1995, 1999 and 2000).
The Tiger Meet is focused on flying operations. Several scenarios were executed e.g. air-to-air, air-to-ground, CSAR, combined air operations and attack of sea-based targets. But that's not all. Gifts are exchanged, squadron members present songs and highlight is a big gala, the formal dinner. Two squadrons joined the Tiger Association, Fliegerstaffel 11 (Swiss Air Force) and the 1st Flying Squadron of the NATO AWACS wing based in Geilenkirchen. At the farewell party at September 5th the "Silver Tiger" was awarded to the 1.sqn of the JaboG32 based at Lechfeld. This award is given to the squadron that earns the most points in all the competitions taking place.
The photocall was well organized. For a small amount of money even a patch and some food was provided although there are always people who find something to moan about. The only aircraft not present were the F-16 from Norway that instead flew to Payerne to take part in the AIR04, the F-15 and the Super Etendard.
